Monsieur Lazhar (Mr.Lazhar in english) is a film that chronicles the life of a small school in Montreal.Everyone in the school are shocked and emotionally beaten when a teacher named Martine hangs herself and does a suicide.A boy named Simon sees this and rushes away to report it.
The Principal, apparently shocked smokes a cigarette and lets the students to attain the services of a Psychologist.Bachir Lazhar,an immigrant from Algeria reads this in a newspaper and hopes to find himself as a replacement. He impresses the principle and starts taking classes. He thinks that Martine’s suicide is a shameless and disrespectful act.
The film engages us in a way that we could not, unless forcefully, take an eye out of the screen.Lazhar encourages children in his class and tells them the eternal fact that school is for studying and recognising themselves and their talents, not their grief. The children apparently are troubled awfully by the incident.Mr.Lazhar’s favourite student is Alice who blames Simon for the incident.
The film also shows us the troubled life of Bachir Lazhar. His past is as terrible as anything and he finds life violent. In one of the scenes of the movie Bachir Lazhar sympathises Alice telling “The dead stay in our heads because we loved them and they loved us”.
I found this film brilliant and outstanding. Its a no surprise that this movie was nominated for the academy awards.Seldom have i seen such a film as this and i give the credit to every soul who worked for this film.Bazhir Lazhar was amazing and all the children acted very well.
